Product Description

SCD40 CO2, Temperature, and Humidity Sensor Module

= I2C Communication Gas Sensor for Air Quality Monitoring =

The SCD40 is a compact photoacoustic CO2 sensor that combines a carbon dioxide detector with integrated temperature and humidity sensing on a single chip using Sensirion's PASens® and CMOSens® technology . It's an ideal choice for indoor air quality monitoring, ventilation control, and scientific experiments .

True CO2 Detection - Uses photoacoustic technology for real PPM measurement, not approximation
Compact 3in1 Solution - Measures CO2, temperature, and humidity in one tiny package
Supply voltage range: 2.4V to 5.5V with 15mA typical current
I2C address fixed at 0x62
The sensor should NOT be exposed to condensation or humidity above 95%RH, as this can permanently damage the device

ThirdParty Support Works with Adafruit, SparkFun, Tasmota, M5Stack, and Arduino libraries

√ Multiple Qwiic/STEMMA QT ready breakout boards available

√ Supports ESPHome and ESP-IDF via community components

= Connection and Usage Guidelines =

The SCD40 communicates via I2C and can be powered directly from 3.3V or 5V . Breakout boards often include onboard voltage regulation and level shifting for easy integration . It supports different measurement modes:

  • Periodic Mode: Continuous measurement at regular intervals
  • LowPower Periodic Mode: Lower sampling rate for batterypowered projects
  • SingleShot Mode: Ondemand measurement, though not supported by the SCD40 (this feature requires the SCD41 or SCD43)

Easy Integration - Works with many microcontroller platforms including Arduino and Raspberry Pi

ReadytoUse Factory calibrated and includes automatic selfcalibration

√ Commonly available in breakout board form factor

√ Compatible with standard I2C libraries across various platforms

√ Onboard signal compensation enhances accuracy

= Troubleshooting =

Sensor not communicating:

  • Verify I2C address is 0x62
  • Check supply voltage (2.4-5.5V)
  • Add appropriate pull-up resistors if not present on the module

Inaccurate readings:

  • Allow sensor to stabilize in fresh air for calibration period
  • Ensure environmental conditions are within specified range
  • Avoid exposing sensor to condensation or high humidity above 95%RH
