The L293D is a popular 16pin integrated circuit that simplifies controlling DC motors and stepper motors, allowing bidirectional drive. It contains two Hbridges capable of driving two DC motors or one stepper motor at currents up to 600mA per channel .

= Troubleshooting =

IC gets extremely hot:

  • Check current draw, do not exceed 600mA continuous per channel
  • Add a heatsink for prolonged operation
  • Ensure motor supply voltage (pin 8) doesn't exceed 36V

Motor not responding:

  • Verify enable pins (1 and 9) are HIGH
  • Check logic supply (pin 16) is 4.5V to 7V
  • Ensure both GND pins are connected
