The NE555 is a highly popular and versatile precision timer IC, first introduced in 1971 by Signetics and now manufactured by many companies including Texas Instruments and Philips . It contains 25 transistors, 15 resistors, and 2 diodes, making it a fundamental building block in electronics for timing, pulse generation, and oscillator applications .

Highly Versatile Operates in three modes: astable (oscillator), monostable (oneshot), and bistable (flip-flop)
High Output Current - Can sink or source up to 200mA to directly drive LEDs, relays, and small speakers
Supply voltage range: 4.5V to 15V DC (5V recommended for TTL compatibility)
Operating temperature: Commercial (0°C to 70°C for NE555), Industrial (40°C to 85°C for SA555), Military (55°C to 125°C for SE555)
