The L7805CV is a three-terminal fixed positive voltage regulator, part of the widely used 78xx series . It provides a stable +5V output, making it an essential component for powering microcontrollers, sensors, and various 5V logic circuits from an unregulated DC source .

Wide Input Voltage Range - Accepts unregulated input from 7V to 35V for flexible power source options .
Robust Protection Features internal thermal overload and shortcircuit protection, making it essentially indestructible .
For reliable operation, the input voltage should be at least 7.5V to 10V to maintain regulation .
This is a linear regulator. The higher the difference between input and output voltage, the more heat is generated. A heatsink is recommended when providing high current (over 1A) or operating with high input voltages.
